Exams, Rivals & Magical Misconduct: Strixhaven, A Curriculum of Chaos
Your exam is tomorrow. Your rival has perfected their spell. Your study group has discovered something that almost certainly violates university policy. Nobody promised a magical education would be quiet.
Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos brings a campus adventure to D&D. Four adventures follow academic years and can form a campaign from levels 1–10, mixing student relationships, extracurricular activities, exams, and a larger threat.
Pick a College, Find a Personality
Lorehold, Prismari, Quandrix, Silverquill, and Witherbloom give students different magical traditions to explore. The book also offers owlin characters, college backgrounds, feats, and spells.
A college choice is a useful opening for roleplay. What does your character love studying? What are they avoiding? Whom are they trying to impress? Those answers can make a school day feel like part of an adventure.
Let the Supporting Cast Return
A campus campaign benefits from familiar faces. Someone who was a rival during an examination might become an unexpected ally when trouble arrives. An ordinary conversation can acquire weight because the characters expect to meet again.
Our table idea: let every player invent one harmless campus rumor and one personal goal for the term. The DM can weave those into ordinary scenes without needing every moment to advance the main plot.
A Change From the Dungeon Road
This book suits groups interested in recurring relationships, social scenes, and characters with lives between dangerous encounters. Agree on how much time you want to spend on campus activities and let the group shape that balance.
DMs can use the connected campaign or draw inspiration for a magical academy in another setting.
Bring your books. Remember your deadlines. Try to avoid being the reason the faculty revises its safety rules.
