Allies and Impostors: Three Figures from Vecna: Eve of Ruin
Karwind's Collectibles: D&D Miniatures Spotlight
Some campaigns are about saving a village. Vecna: Eve of Ruin is about saving the whole multiverse. It's a high-level adventure where the party teams up with some of D&D's most famous wizards to stop the lich-god Vecna. WizKids built a miniatures set around it, and our three picks this time are all about the people in that story: a legendary ally, a betrayer in disguise, and a necromancer you probably shouldn't trust.
About the Set
D&D Icons of the Realms: Vecna: Eve of Ruin is Set 32 in WizKids' Icons of the Realms line, and the collector database MinisGallery lists its release as September 18, 2024. It has 40 miniatures tied to the adventure: kuo-toa, devils of many kinds, angry commoners, skeletons, and big names from D&D history like Vecna (in two forms), Kas the Betrayer, Tasha, Mordenkainen, and Lady Alustriel Silverhand. Each booster has one Large figure and three Small or Medium ones.
Going by Miniature Market's single listings, the rarities break down like this:
Commons: 12 figures, including kuo-toa, skeletons, merregons, spined and bearded devils, and three very angry commoners.
Uncommons: 15 figures, from the Kuo-Toa Archpriest and Chain Devil to the Horned Devil, Vrock, Worg, Warforged Blade, and Spyder-Fiend.
Rares: 13 figures, including Vecna, Tasha, Kas the Betrayer, Laysa Matulin, the Bone Devil, the Hellwasp, a Drider, and the three below.
TechRaptor reviewed the set in August 2024 and praised its high level of detail, saying it's useful even if you're not running the Vecna adventure. Their biggest complaint was the usual one with blind boxes: you can't choose what you get. (Buying singles takes care of that.)
A note on stock: We have 16 listings from this set right now, and most of them are single copies, including all three below.
Lady Alustriel Silverhand (#30, Rare)
Alustriel Silverhand is a legend of the Forgotten Realms: one of the Seven Sisters, a powerful wizard, and long the ruler of Silverymoon. In Eve of Ruin she's one of the famous allies who show up in the adventure. Her figure shows her in flowing teal and blue robes, with long silver hair and a staff topped with a golden unicorn's head. TechRaptor called her out as a highlight of the set.
Why collectors want her: She's a beloved character, and this is a really elegant sculpt. Realms fans don't often get a good Alustriel mini.
At the table: Use her as a powerful ally, a quest-giver, a wise ruler, or a high-level wizard or sorcerer PC.

Kas as Mordenkainen (#36, Rare)
Now here's a twist. Kas the Betrayer was Vecna's most trusted lieutenant until he turned on his master, and his story is all about betrayal. Several retailers list this figure as "Kas as Mordenkainen," which suggests Kas disguised as the famous wizard. It shows a confident figure in red and black, with a sweeping red cape and a long sword, looking a lot more like a warrior than a wizard. (We won't spoil the adventure for you.)
Why collectors want it: It's a fun piece of storytelling in miniature form, and it pairs perfectly with the set's Kas the Betrayer (#28). A note on naming: some retailers, including Miniature Market, list #36 simply as "Mordenkainen," while others call it "Kas as Mordenkainen."
At the table: Use it for Kas, an impostor, a shapeshifter, a dark knight, or any villain hiding in plain sight.

Necromancer Wizard (#31, Rare)
Every Vecna story needs a necromancer or two. This one stands about 51mm tall (per Miniature Market), a pale robed figure on a base of glowing purple crystals, with one arm raised and dark magic in hand.
Why collectors want it: The crystal base is a striking touch, and good necromancer figures are always useful. It's a Rare, too.
At the table: Use it for an evil necromancer, a cult leader serving Vecna, a lich in training, or a necromancer PC who swears they're one of the good guys.
