Bright Ideas & Dangerous Inventions: Eberron, Forge of the Artificer
The machine works beautifully. It flies, it glows, and it makes a sound the inventor describes as probably normal. Across the street, somebody is investigating a theft. Above you, an airship is making an unscheduled arrival. Welcome to a busy day in Eberron.
Eberron: Forge of the Artificer brings the artificer to the revised rules with five subclasses: Alchemist, Armorer, Artillerist, Battle Smith, and Cartographer. It also includes species and dragonmark options, Bastions, airships, and material for several styles of Eberron adventure.
Invent a Hero With a Purpose
An artificer is an inviting choice for a player who wants magic to feel crafted. Start with the person behind the tools. What are they trying to improve? Who taught them? What invention are they determined to finish?
Those answers can make equipment part of a character’s story. A well-used tool or an inherited notebook may matter more than the polished device in the display case.
Intrigue, Investigation, or Expedition
The book’s campaign material includes Sharn Inquisitives, Dragonmarked Intrigue, and Morgrave Expeditions. Its airship and mobile Bastion material gives DMs more ways to take adventure beyond a fixed home base.
Our table idea: give the party a shared project and a deadline. They might be repairing transportation, protecting an important delivery, or trying to find a missing collaborator. A practical problem can bring very different heroes together.
