Cultists, Wyverns, and a Dragon-Mad Wizard: Standout Figures from Adventures in Faerûn
Karwind's Collectibles: D&D Miniatures Spotlight
The Forgotten Realms has been D&D's home base for a long time, and every few years it gets a fresh coat of paint. This year's version came with new books, and WizKids followed with a new miniatures set to match: D&D Icons of the Realms: Adventures in Faerûn. It's the newest set in our shop, and three of its Rares really caught our eye.
About the Set
WizKids announced Adventures in Faerûn in April 2026, and retailers listed it for release in late August 2026. The set was built to go with the new Forgotten Realms: Adventures in Faerûn and Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn books. It has 46 miniatures full of Realms factions and villains: Harpers, Zhentarim, the Emerald Enclave, the Purple Dragon Knights, the Flaming Fist, cultists of Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul, drow of Lolth, and some strange things from beyond the Sword Coast, like the phaerimm. Each booster has one Large figure and three Small or Medium ones, and a 10-booster brick retails for $199.90.
Going by Miniature Market's single listings, the rarities break down like this:
Commons: 12 figures, mostly cultists, soldiers, and small monsters like flying snakes and faerie dragons.
Uncommons: 22 listings (counting the color variants of the Axe Beak and Guardian Naga). These are the faction heroes and mid-size monsters: Zhentilar Paladin, Drow Harper Warrior Veteran, Purple Dragon Knight, Chuul, Lamia, Polar Serpent, and more.
Rares: 12 figures, from the Werewyvern and Swanmay to Queen Forfallen, a Dao, and a Young Spirit Dragon.
Miniature Market also lists a #44s "Young Spirit Shadow Dragon" marked UR (ultra rare), which looks like a special variant of the Spirit Dragon. We couldn't confirm the details from WizKids, so think of that as a rumor for now. The set is too new for full reviews, so we'll let the figures speak for themselves.
Sammaster (#40, Rare)

Long-time Realms fans know the name. Sammaster was the wizard who founded the Cult of the Dragon, the group obsessed with turning dragons into undead dracoliches. His figure shows a long-haired mage in deep purple robes, with magic swirling around his hands, like he's in the middle of something he probably shouldn't be doing.
Why collectors want him: He's a famous villain from Forgotten Realms lore, and he's the Rare most in demand from this set. Going by other retailers' listings, he's the priciest standard Rare in the set.
At the table: Use him as a cult leader, a mad archmage, or a lich-to-be. If you run anything with the Cult of the Dragon, he's a great choice for the man behind it all.

Werewyvern (#34, Rare)

Now here's something you don't see every day. As the name says, the Werewyvern puts a lycanthrope twist on the wyvern. The figure has a dark, scaly body, a long tail, and bright pink wings spread wide, and it looks half beast and half nightmare. It's the kind of monster that makes players stop and ask, "Wait, what is that?"
Why collectors want it: It's an unusual creature with a striking paint job, and it's one of the higher-priced Rares in the set at other retailers.
At the table: Use it for a cursed wyvern-rider, a beast hunting the party, or a surprise twist when the friendly NPC changes shape. It also works as any winged horror you need.

Wyvern (#41, Rare)

Every D&D shelf needs a good wyvern, and this is a big one: a Large figure on a 50mm base, about 65mm tall (per Miniature Market). It has a tan body, red wings, and its stinger tail is curled and ready to strike. It looks like it just landed on a rocky ledge and is deciding which adventurer to eat first.
Why collectors want it: Wyverns show up in games of every level, and a well-sculpted, well-painted Large wyvern is always useful. Plus it's a Rare, so you won't pull one in every brick.
At the table: Use it for a mountain ambush, a mount for a villain, or a beast guarding a cliffside nest. Pair it with the Werewyvern for an encounter with a real "family resemblance."
